Balls of love...

I was totally inspired when I saw the baking genius of Bakerella and took it upon myself to try and make some of her scrumptious cake-balls for my friend Elba's baby shower. I was thrilled with how easy they were and a total hit at the party! I got all of the supplies: lollipop sticks, plastic safety pins, dipping chocolate, basket & grass at Michaels craft store. The cake inside is just a Devils Food mix and choc frosting hand mixed together. Find the recipe at Bakeralla , these would be great for Easter :)

Vintage Love...

I've started on my vintage valentines :) I didn't have the heart (no pun) to cut and paste the originals, so I've photocopied them onto card, cut them out and mounted them onto vintage wrapping paper and new cards with envelopes. I'm loving these cuties! They are selling for $5 each, so email me if you are interested in purchasing any of these. I can do multiples because they aren't made from the originals. The pictures below look a bit blurry, but the cards are very clear. My poor old camera is going to need to be replaced soon...

If you are needing a bunch of vintage cute valentine replicas, you can buy them from our local cool curio shop, Archie Mcfee's. They have a pack of replica Space and Classic for $4.95 for pack of 10, bargain!

kitty friends. Last night I finished a new friend for the fuzzy yellow kitty I made a while back. I was planning on working on bags that need to be finished, but I wasn't feeling good in my stomach so I watched the Little House on the Prairie marathon on the Hallmark station and finished this new kitty. Although I have been using the vintage 1950's pattern for different animals, they are all turning out to be cats. Oh well, it's a theme (sort of). Back to the stomach and nothing to do with sewing or fabric, I'm going to try and give up eating gluton/ wheat, sugar (processed not natural) and dairy. I have friends who have had to give these things up due to stomach problems, so I have decided to give it a go. Also, just cutting out processed foods, eating simpler and more naturally.  Anyway, more pictures of the super furry kitty cats on flickr, just click on the picture to go there. There are more planned in the future and I'm hoping to do their own website soon...tbd :)

Super hairy scary kitty...

Just finished this guy today...

My sister gave me a load of crazy fun fur from her heady days of rave costume making. It inspired me to create a softie of my own. I have seen so many super cute ones online and I wanted to start making some that were so ugly they were cute. Well, my first shot at it has created a scary kitty, that looks like a monster dog. Oh well, I am growing fond of him :) It's probably the eyes, went a bit mad there! The next one is sure to be cuter...

Purple Muffins Majesty...

In my quest to finish up all the yoghurt cups that Jason bought on special and didn't eat, before they expire June 30th, I have been quite creative. Adding yoghurt to things that I never had before. I also tried making frozen yoghurt with 4 of the cups, which just turned into block-of-ice yoghurt. After I let it thaw out a bit, I put it in the blender with some milk and it turned out great. Last night I made oatmeal & blackberry muffins with boysenberry yoghurt and crumble topping, so yummy and the best part, their purple!

The recipe made 12, but I have eaten two already. These aren't exactly low-fat, but I have been to my second yoga class in two weeks, so I think that justifies the second muffin. The crumble is so good! I could just eat that! The picture is taken on a puzzle that Jason found in the attic when he bought the house. We made it up at the kitchen table the other day and it is missing some pieces. We need to go on a puzzle piece hunt in the attic, but I have since filled it with many boxes of fabric to his dispair ;P (At least I make him muffins ;)

Recipe for Purple Berry Oat Muffins with Crumble Topping:

11051_192

Pre-heat oven to 400* and grease or line 12, 2 1/2" muffin cups.

1 1/3 cup flour, 3/4 cup oats, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt. Combine dry mixture in a medium bowl and set aside.

1 beaten egg, 1 6oz cup of berry yoghurt, 1/2 cup of frozen berries, 1/3 cup cooking oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Combine in seperate bowl and then add to dry mixture. Spoon into muffin cups.

To make the crumble, combine 1/2 cup oats and 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar. Cut 1/4 cup butter (I used a bit less) into mixture until it is lumpy. Sprinkle over muffin batter.

Bake at 400* for 18 minutes. Set out and let cool on rack. Enjoy!

RicRac Fun...

We are babies in Seattle. It is around 85 degrees today and all we can do is complain. We get one week of sunny days a year, but what are ya gonna do :) At least there is a brisk breeze coming through my hot upstairs studio, so I'm trying not to complain too much.

11051_421_2  My lovely mother gave me this skirt a while ago. It was a full circle which made my bum look like the side of a barn. I have been wanting to alter it, so finally got around to it today. I took out about half of it and this is the finished skirt. I added a brown (drop) waist band with camel topstitching. I had so much left over I decided to make up an apron.

11051_432

The apron only took half of the leftovers, so I still have more to work with... Maybe a bag to match? Unfortunately, you can see my messy bins in the background, yeesh.

I love using ricrac! I have put it under the grosgrain ribbon tie and around the patch pocket. I think I may have to put my apron on and go lay in the shady grass of the backyard now. My poor Seattle blood isn't used to this heat :)

I just had to buy this...

Holy mosaic...

While playing around on Flickr,I created this neat looking mosaic with Fd's Flickr Toys with images gleaned off of an online trend report and a cool rex ray piece. I might get obsessed with doing this now...

1105_4803_1

I also started a new Flickr group for nutty people like me who take pictures of their cats while trying finish a project, cat is usually sitting in the middle of the project. The group is called Crafting with Cats, please visit and join!

11051_187_1 Speaking of cats, yesterday I received my vintage black kitty pin cushion/ tape measure (in the tongue) won off of ebay. Yay! I have been looking for one for ages and couldn't belive my luck when I found it and won! It matches the black kitty letter holder that Jason got me for Valentines Day (love!).

The ebay fairy has also delivered two more boxes of vintage patterns! This is becoming quite the collection (read obsession). I will get most of these up onto Flickr soon.
