Fresh new Mini messenger bag...

done! Ordered by a new customer, these were the great fabrics that she chose:

The big piece in the back was a rubberized vintage curtain I bought at the Goodwill by-the-pound outlet store and the two brightly colored fabrics were just used on an orange bridesmaid clutch bag (for her friends wedding), shown in an earlier post.

Here is the great finished bag:

Bridesmaids Clutchbags...

Finished! One of my lovely clients is getting married and for her bridesmaids she has ordered 3 clutch bags from me. Her colors for the wedding are Choc Brown, Apple Red & Citris Orange. These are the fabrics that she had chosen (and my toes :):

They can be used as make-up bags or clutch bags and have handy wrist handles attached to the zippers. I can't wait to see pictures of the bridesmaids with their lovely bags!

Pillow Talk...

It has been all about pillows this summer! I have just finished another batch of pillows ready to deliver to Presence on Capitol Hill. She sells them as fast as I can make em, which is fab! I just keep running out of pillow forms. I bought 6 new down Pottery Barn pillow forms from an estate sale last week for $3 each! I usually like the poly-fill forms, they are firmer and fill the cases out better. These are a bit too squishy...

Can you believe this is what my workroom looks like at the moment (embarrassing)! Yes, that is a loom in the far left corner, it works really well as a shelf :P I bought it from the Goodwill months ago, bought a load of vintage weaving books and there is sits. Someday...

The room looks great when it's clean, someday...

I have also spent some time cleaning up my blog. It took me a while to figure out what worked and I'm much happier with how it looks, much lighter. Arg, I need to update my website as well!

Yay! Write up...

This sweet write up has come out in the new July issue of the Seattle Metropolitain magazine. I was very excited last night when Jason and I went to our little corner market for late night veggie wings and blue cheese dressing, to open up this new issue and see my bag! Super pleased!

The only weird thing is that it's in the medical issue, with lots of articles about doctors. Oh well, at least it's in!

Orange Crush to go...

Just finished this fab-o Orange Tote Bag for a customer in California. I usually used tweeds and woolies on this style, but since it's going to Cali I used non-seasonal fabrics. So she can use it in any weather. The base of the bag is a piece of the circles and squares vintage upholstery and it's lined in a red and orange stripe shiny lining. This color scheme has been so popular this season!

Top it off...

Most of these new hat styles are available at the shops Presence or Derby in Seattle or (hopefully) on my website soon. Special orders are welcome, www.suzyfairchild.com

Lucky Me!

Bolster up

This last week has been all about pillows. Bolster pillows! The Derby Salon has ordered 8 of my patchwork pillows in mango and sage for their spa chairs. I have had to put delivery off twice due to the fact that my wholesale pillow forms were taking forever to get here. I used a company that I found on the internet and had never used before. It took over a month to get my pillow forms and ever time I called the company I kept getting "the pillows are in the mail" story. So aggrivating! I went to the fabric store yesterday and bought stuffing and calico to make them myself today, low and behold they actually turned up this morning! A huge box of 17 bolster pillows! I just can't believe my luck. The patchwork covers have been done for a week now, just waiting for their insides and I don't have to stuff 8 pillows! Very happy about that. Derby will have their spa pillows tomorrow, they are to order as well, so customers of the spa can order pillows in any color way for themselves.

Making Babies (Bags)

Spring is baby season and funky new mom's are in need of great diaper bags! I have been making a really cute diaper bag for a few years that looks like a really huge handbag. The mom can pick out her fave fabrics and trims and I make it up to order.

I resently tried a new style in leather. It was for a trendy couple that needed something that dad could carry as well without looking odd. So, they chose a faded teal colored leather of which I (luckily) have a whole hide of. I added a brown piping accent since all colors are going back to brown this year. It is sort of an enormous airline bag style, with a belt on the front seperating the front pockets. I recycled the belt from the Goodwill. The pockets are lined in a brown pvc, the inside is lined in an aqua cotton fabric and has an adjustable brown leather strap that is backed with a brocade fabric. There is a zipper pocket at the back and a huge inside pocket. I think when I make this bag again I will try to back the leather with something other than the pvc, I broke about 7 needles trying to sew through 8 layers. It was quite a struggle, but made it in the end!

At last...

I have finally made a new bag for myself! Suzy_bag

I have been carrying the same little bag for the past year and it is really time to retire it. Black, brown and red seem to go with everything. The fabric came from a charity shop in North Seattle and I recycled a funky black leather belt for the handle. I think when I make this bag again, I will be putting a zipper in. I like having the magnetic snap and the red lining to show, but the opening of this bag is a bit wide. It's bigger than my last bag, so I will inevitably be hauling around more stuff!
