Today is my first full day back at work. 8 hours away from baby Sadie, who's at home with her daddy. Did I just dream it? Did I spend last year pregnant and have a baby cut out of my tum? That's the weirdest part of coming back to work (aside from pumping breast milk in the little bathroom), is it's all here, it's all the same, only I'm a lot chubbier and my boobs are huge! First thing I did with all the ants in my pants is re-arrange the whole store. I have been away from it for 4 months, just popping in for visits, but away from being in the shop all day looking at everything. I'm excited that spring is arriving and everything will be cotton and flowers! I intend to wear some of the floral maxi dresses that I wore pregnant last summer, since I'm sure it will be a while before this tummy goes back to normal.
Sadie turned 3 months yesterday, I can't believe it, and is amazing! She is so sweet and adorable, her cheeks are so chubby and I can't stop kissing them. It feels really good being at this stage with Sadie. The first six weeks were hard, but also had some amazing times. Lack of sleep, soothing her crying and constant feeding. Just trying to figure out what we were doing. Thank goodness for my hubby, he was amazing helping with my recovery and with taking care of Sadie. We are lucky as by the 7th week she started to sleep through the night, smiling and chatting and generally became quite content with life.
I don't know what nursing women did before laptops. I spend most of my time breastfeeding with the laptop on the couch next to me typing with one hand. I've become quite good at the one handed type. We are still working on naps. She falls asleep so well on my lap after nursing and I find it hard to move her. Her daddy is good at scooping her up and putting her down, so we are working on having a nap schedule. She sleeps so well at night, 7-8 hour stretch, feed, 2-3 hour stretch, so I know that she can sleep well in her crib. She has recently started getting a bit feisty when feeding. Stopping to look and smile at me or starts kicking and struggling. That's when we take a break and come back to it later. We have taken to calling me "the boob" because she opens her mouth up so wide and leans way over if I even get close to her.
At this age she is really aware of her hands and feet and is picking up toys (and everything) to put into her mouth. Her Grandma got her the Bumbo chair which is for 3 months + and is pretty hilarious as she is still a bit wobbly. She also gets very excited when someone new comes over to the house, burbling and squealing loudly at them!
My great friend Naomi had her little baby girl, Scarlet, almost 2 weeks after I had Sadie. It is terrific to have someone to email with daily about what we and baby are up to. It makes a huge difference to have such a lovely close friend who can relate exactly with all the new daily baby events.
I'm so happy to be back working in the shop, but also so happy that I will only be doing a couple of days a week, then mostly working from home. I'm also happy that we only live down the street from the shop, so that hubby can bring Sadie to visit me and pick up her next meal :)
Check out that crazy hair!
