Hi, weird little 70's crafts...

Leewards

Our road trip to Montana last week gave me the opportunity to indulge in a favorite hobby, buying 70's craft books.

Afghans

I got a stack of them at the Goodwill in Missoula for 10 cents each.

We hit a few antique malls and groovy little junk shops, I bought loads of 50's dress patterns, a stack of vintage wrapping paper (really great prints!), funky mushroom decals and a few pieces of vintage fabric. Such great inspiration from the 70's, craft was so huge then as it is becoming more now. My knitting skills are limited to scarves and well things made from squares of knitting, but I have recently tried my hand at crochet. I started with rosettes which are good fun, but with all these 70's crochet books I wanted to try something a bit more adventurous. I crocheted this little hat and flower in the car ride from Seattle to Missoula MT.

Most of the way is to winding too look away from the road, but a long stretch through Eastern Washington is very flat, so perfect for not getting car sick. I'm going to try for some abstract flower scarves to sell in the wintertime. We have another road trip in July, so I'll be bringing my huge bag of yarn with us!

I loved the cute little crocheted hat and flower that you made in the car ride from Seattle. So very cute! I have a lot of vintage patterns my mother gave me when she sold her house last year, she used a lot of them to make dresses for me and I am 55. They have a cuteness that things just don't have anymore. I think you will understand. I don't have any girl Grandkids, all boys, what a bummer. I wonder if I made some up if I could sell them. I am thinking of starting a tiny selling project of some kind, I am disabled and really need the money to get by on. I used to make those plant holders that sell now for ten or more dollars for one,out of macrame. I used to make the double one, I am looking for the directions to making them again, it has been a while since I made any, I was a hippie back then. But I loved making them. I don't even know if you will get this but I would love to talk to you about how to get started in a business and just about sewing etc. I love doing new and old things...You have a great talent, keep it up.

Good Luck,

~Pat~

Hi, thanks for writing!
I have found quite a few macrame books at thrift stores like the Goodwill, in the craft section. I have a few, I will scan and email you the instructions for the double planter that you are looking for if I have it in one of my books.
Thanks again and happy crafting!
Suzy

I love the pattern with the two birds! Did the magazine have it with a pattern? I been looking for cute bird motifs, vintage are the best!

It does have the pattern, I will email it to you today. If anyone else would like the pattern to the bird sweater, please email me.
